In 1962, Roy became the first Alaska Native to be registered as professional civil engineer. He worked as a bridge designer for the City of Seattle and the State of Alaska, then as a structural engineer in the private sector. In 1979, he co-founded Peratrovich, Nottingham & Drage, Inc., a nationally recognized engineering firm with offices in Anchorage, Juneau and Seattle. In 1999 Roy retired from PN&D and turned full time to his life long love of creating art, a natural talent that had been put on hold for many years. Often drawing on tribal legends, he loves telling a story through his art. His studio is at his home on Bainbridge Island, where he welcomes visitors. Although he also works in other media, sculpture is his favorite form of expression. |
